Transforming heirlooms into lasting, useful memories.

I like a challenge and when a customer asked me if I could re-purpose her parent’s old oilskins I was intrigued and excited to discuss the project with her. I am always happy to discuss bespoke projects, but they are usually made of the 14oz canvas I hold in stock. In this case I was presented with two vintage oilskins and pair of fireman’s trousers! The oilskins were so full of character that I was quite reluctant to cut into them. However the owner gave me full reign to create a swim bag for her based on my small Boat Bag pattern but with the caveat that they needed to preserve the existing pockets. With any remaining fabric, and using the fireman’s trousers, she also ordered a small Ditty Bag. Once I got over my apprehension of cutting into such well loved pieces I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the old and long unused oilers transform into a brand new and useful new holdall. The customer was delighted that I had interpreted her ideas into reality and shortly afterwards she ordered another couple of bags with the remaining leftovers – a smaller swim bag and a small tote.

I loved this project and was thrilled with these comments ‘Jane - tremendous appreciation for converting / transforming my heirlooms into useful, lasting memories. Terrific work!’
